Voters will decide whether four terms is the ceiling for mayor and council — and two seats are on the same ballot.
Doral voters will decide in November whether to write lifetime term limits into the City Charter. The City Council approved Resolution No. 26-6656 at its June 10, 2026 meeting, placing the proposed amendment on the ballot for the November 2026 General Election. Under the proposal, a person could serve a maximum of four terms as mayor and four terms as councilmember, with the two offices counted separately and independently, so service in one would not count against the limit for the other. All terms served before and after adoption would count toward the applicable lifetime limit. The existing restriction on consecutive service would stay in place: no one may serve more than two consecutive elected terms in the same office, and after two consecutive terms a person must remain out of that office for one full term before seeking it again. An appointment to councilmember lasting six months or less would not be counted as a term, and neither would an election to either office for a period of one year or less. (Doral Family Journal)
Two council seats are on the same November ballot
Two City Council seats go before Doral voters on November 3, 2026. Up to 896 homes proposed at Miami International Mall
Greystar Development East, LLC is seeking City approval to allow up to 896 residential units on roughly 25.6 acres inside the Miami International Mall Consolidated Development of Regional Impact. The properties sit at 1625 NW 107 Avenue and 1603 NW 107 Avenue on the north side of the mall, and the request would permit a base density of 25 dwelling units per acre, reaching 35 units per acre through density bonuses tied to proposed Mall Mixed Use zoning regulations. The plan describes three standalone but integrated multifamily developments that would reactivate underused portions of the property, including areas tied to the former Sears and JCPenney sites, while existing mall commercial operations continue. The residential request is one piece of a larger package that also includes Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map amendments, creation of a new zoning district, rezoning, site plan approvals, and changes to existing development restrictions. Council takes up the FY 26-27 millage rate July 29
