Doral is drafting new rules for golf carts and micromobility devices. The public workshop is Tuesday, August 25, at Doral Legacy Park. The regulations are still proposals, which is exactly why the meeting exists. Whatever the city settles on follows you onto your own street, and decides where carts and scooters belong once the rules are written. Households that treat a cart as a second car have the most riding on this. So do parents weighing whether a teenager can take one down the block. Bring your questions while they still count for something.
Nearly 90,000 square feet of office space just got spoken for
Easton & Associates signed five new leases in Doral totaling 88,260 square feet. The space sits in two office buildings, at 8600 NW 36th Street and 2001 NW 107th Avenue. The largest piece is a 36,360-square-foot lease at the 36th Street building, taken by a government agency the brokerage did not name. Andrew Easton, a vice president at the firm, represented the landlords in all five deals. Nearly 90,000 square feet of filled office is a lot of people arriving on the same mornings. Expect the lunch counters and left turns near those buildings to feel it.
A new vet on 41st Street, and your dog is invited
Happy Tails Veterinary Care holds its grand opening Thursday, August 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 9690 NW 41st Street. Mayor Christi Fraga is on hand for the ribbon-cutting. Bring your dog or cat, meet the team, and walk the place before you need it at eight on a bad morning. That is the real value here, because nobody wants to meet a vet for the first time in an emergency. It is free to attend, though registration is required. Business owners are invited too, cards in hand, since the Doral Chamber is behind the event.
A heavy week for anyone who works a room
The Miami Airport Chamber runs its Power Networking Breakfast Friday, 7:30 to 10 a.m., at Homewood Suites by Hilton on Waterford District Drive. It is free for members and $10 for guests. Wednesday stacks two more. Amerant hosts a session on SBA financing at its Galloway Banking Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It covers 7(a) and 504 programs and recent underwriting changes. That one is invitation-only, with RSVPs due August 25. The Doral Chamber Trustee Lunch runs the same day at 107 Steak & Bar, with Mayor Christi Fraga speaking and $49 tickets for members.
Two ways to spend Friday out of the house
The Doral Cultural Arts Center runs Clay Crocs, a summer interactive art class where participants sculpt and design their own Clay Crocs. It is hands-on work, and whatever you make at the table goes home with you. Across town at Doral Glades Park, the Doral Pickleball Club leads a free clinic brought by Baptist Health. That is the low-risk way to find out whether the sport is for you, before you go buy a paddle and commit. Both happen Friday, August 21. Neither asks much of you beyond showing up.
The Times discovers Doral, roughly two decades late
The New York Times gave Doral its real estate guide treatment last week, framing the city as marshland turned booming Miami suburb. The piece walks through Downtown Doral. Homes, schools, government buildings, health care facilities and a shopping corridor sit within a few blocks of each other. Its main point will surprise nobody stuck on 87th Avenue: the population is growing fast, and people are not coming only for the golf. None of that is news if you live here. It is still odd to see your neighborhood explained to strangers as a destination.
Councilwoman Porras on the record, in two languages
Maureen Porras taped an episode of Hispanic Pride / Orgullo Hispano. The bilingual podcast is produced by the Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board with Community Newspapers. It went up Wednesday on the Community Newspapers channel. Porras is an immigration attorney in addition to sitting on the Doral council. That is not a common pairing on any dais in this county.
