Pineyro calls the immigration crackdown a tragic moment
Plus a Republican ticket update and a September 16 business mixer.
Councilman Rafael Pineyro is raising concerns about immigration arrests affecting Venezuelan families, while two large commercial-property sales put new owners behind a neighborhood shopping center and 14 local warehouses.
Doral Councilman Rafael Pineyro has called the recent pace of immigration arrests a tragic moment. He was speaking about Venezuelan families. Pineyro is the only Venezuelan-American on the council.
He backs the deportation of people convicted of crimes. But he objects when people with open immigration or asylum cases are held. He wants those families treated apart from criminals.
There were 17 immigration arrests in Doral in July. There were three in December. Reported encounters have centered near Northwest 87th and 107th avenues. Other reports came from Northwest 36th and 41st streets.
Doral approved a federal 287(g) deal in April 2025. The vote was unanimous. City officials said state rules required the city to sign. City Manager John de la Vega has said local police work with ICE. Pineyro disputes that account. The gap between the two claims is not resolved.
Doral Marketplace, the Whole Foods center, has a new owner
Doral Marketplace has a new owner. A family office advised by Lincoln Property Company bought the new center from SJC Ventures. Cushman & Wakefield arranged the deal. The sale price was not disclosed.
The 83,365-square-foot center is at 10800 Northwest 41st Street, by Northwest 107th Avenue. Every space was leased when it sold.
Tenants include Whole Foods, Ulta, Shake Shack, J. Crew, and Warby Parker. Whole Foods opened July 2.
No tenant changes were announced with the sale. The buyer plans to use the deal for a 1031 exchange, Cushman & Wakefield said.
Fourteen Doral warehouses sell for $86 million
Midtown Capital Partners bought 14 Doral warehouse sites for $86 million. The group has about 300,000 square feet of space.
The buildings range from about 8,000 to 25,000 square feet. They sit along Northwest 54th and 56th streets and Northwest 79th and 82nd avenues. The oldest dates to 1973.
The Waas family built all but one of the sites. It held the group for more than 50 years. The portfolio includes 8570 Northwest 56th Street.
The sale puts many small work bays under new ownership. No tenant changes were announced.
Doral's Hispanic Women bring business, school, and civic leaders together
The Doral Hispanic Women's Chamber of Commerce held a Back to Business, Back to School lunch. It brought business owners, teachers, and civic leaders together.
The guest list was broad. Doral Mayor Christi Fraga took part. So did Miami-Dade elections supervisor Alina Garcia. School Board member Danny Espino was there. Doral Police Chief Matt Castillo joined them. Journalist Myrka Dellanos also attended. Chamber president Roxana Silvera was among the speakers.
The lunch was held at Trump National Doral. It focused on local business, schools, and families. The group promoted new ties and joint work as the school year and fall business season began.
Bryan Avila joins Byron Donalds' Republican ticket
Republican nominee Byron Donalds has picked former state senator Bryan Avila as his running mate.
The new ticket included Doral in Donalds' Florida Dream Tour. The stop was at Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine on Northwest 53rd Street. The tour began in April. It has covered insurance costs, property taxes, public safety, and schools.
Avila left the Florida Senate after joining the ticket. Donalds and Avila face Democrat David Jolly and running mate Gwen Graham in November.
